Silent to be Loud

3 comments:

  1. The Day of Silence was April 15th this year. I did not participate but many of my friends did.

Many LGBT students are harassed and bullied in school. They might not be able to express their thoughts, their feelings, their identities.

Students chose to be silent on Friday to raise awareness against this intolerance and to show support for these students. A lot was said through their actions and not words.

With that, I'll leave you to think.

  2. Very powerful post, Alyssa! Do you feel it is more powerful to remain silent, showing the oppression the LGBT community feels and seeking to understand that pressure to be silent? Or do you feel it is better to be loud and make sure that world hears about the discrimination the LGBT community is experiencing, rather than remaining silent during injustice? -- Kate H

  3. Not to choose the cope out, but I think a combination would be the most effective. I think it's important to have strong/loud advocates for the LGBT community, but I think more people would be empathetic to those efforts with a silent movement. They feed off of each other; the 'loud' efforts open eyes, the 'quiet' opens hearts.
However, either/whichever someone is willing to pursue is great.
